Mary Jane specialises in colour, movement and texture. She studied at the Michaelis School of Art, U.C.T. under Maurice Van Esshe, a pupil of Matisse. The early part of her career was spent in Theatres, capturing the colours and lines of bodies in motion. More recently she has discovered a love of landscapes where she excels at capturing the drama of the ever changing patterns of light across the hills and valleys both in England and in the Campania region of Italy where she lives for part of the year.
“Every painting starts off with excitement and fear. I am compelled to paint- it is my connection to the world. I feel a constant struggle to say something, but everything must appear easy and joyful”
